The artisan techniques Simone uses are a tribute to his Zia (Aunty). As a child, he spent afternoons in her kitchen, watching her roll pasta, make gnocchi, and use fresh vegetables and produce from the garden. His love for cooking and deep passion for food shine through in every dish he creates.

At Pukehina, we have our very own Dotterel Point, where you can observe these incredible birds up close. Our estuary also offers a unique opportunity to spot a variety of birdlife, including sightings of the Australian Bittern, little Quails wandering around the retreat, Tui, and much more.

Pukehina offers stunning sunrises and sunsets, making it the perfect time to stroll along our magnificent beach or estuary, depending on the tides. If you're up for an adventure, why not take a longer walk along the ocean, around the spit, along the estuary, and out onto the stock banks, before continuing further around the estuary?
surf swimming
We are lucky to have a stunning surf beach ideal for swimming, boogie boarding, and playing in the waves. The beach's natural contour makes low tide the safest and most enjoyable time to swim, especially for those who are not confident in surf conditions. During the peak summer months, a flagged and patrolled area is available at times for added peace of mind.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer, our beach caters to everyone. There are spots along the beach ideal for learning, as well as prime areas for seasoned surfers. If you'd like to arrange a surf lesson, feel free to let me know, and I'll be happy to assist.
Estuary swimming
For those who prefer calmer waters than the surf, we are fortunate to have an estuary at Pukehina. This offers a safe and gentle environment, perfect for younger children to enjoy.

We are lucky to have a spit at the end of our beach, offering both a surf beach and an estuary, giving you two fantastic areas to explore. With the beach being so expansive, there's plenty of space for you to enjoy all your outdoor water activities on which ever water body you choose

If surfcasting, longlining is your thing we’ll it certainly can happen here or if fishing from an IRB or larger boat is your passion, Pukehina offers all this and more. However, if you're crossing the bar in a larger boat, please take extra care, as it can be tricky.
hiking
Explore the fantastic hiking spots in and around the local area, as well as those a bit further afield. After your adventure, unwind with a sunset soak in a hot bath, a refreshing swim, or a relaxing massage.
berry picking
We're lucky to have several berry farms in and around Pukehina, offering a wonderful opportunity to pick your own fresh New Zealand produce. It's a fantastic way to spend the day, especially for families with young children, as they enjoy the hands-on experience and the excitement of taking home their freshly picked berries.

Rotorua Ziplines is located in the Ōkere Falls Scenic Reserve with four lines that send you flying through towering native trees and over thundering waterfalls at speeds of up to 40km/hr.
